Box: Findings were shared through rich narrative descriptions, providing multiple points of view and deepening understanding of the social dynamics under study.

Capstone Projects....

 I’m a little late with this post, but nevertheless, here we go. After reviewing the wide range of capstone projects, I felt both overwhelmed and intrigued. There are so many things I’m curious about, and knowing that whatever I land on will eventually be chiseled and shaped into something more specific is hard for my brain to grasp — mostly because I always want to jump ahead. Some ideas I’ve been playing around with all center around youth in some way. One idea involves asking how young people view their voice and place in what feels like a post-Trump, post-COVID, more dangerous, and less community-based era. Where has the sense of community and “loving thy neighbor” gone, and how has that shift shaped younger generations? These questions fall under what I think of as the “how did we get here, and how are youth being affected by it?” category in my head. Who is being looked over in the conversations about youth and supporting them?  Although it can be hard, how can we make sure all youth have the opportunity to be reached?  What initiatives, ideologies, or agendas are being pushed onto young people that may not truly serve their best interests? What are the youth of color feeling about their place in society? Can we have/create a space where students can explore various interests without being forced into one specific lane?  Why are creative spaces important for youth? In what ways can adult artists from different backgrounds collaborate to better serve the next generation? Capstone Project Continued...Dun DUN DUUUUUNNNNNNNN

 This has been something I’ve been pondering and wondering about for a while now. Truthfully, my mind hasn’t landed on anything concrete, but I believe I’m getting close. I keep thinking about what Lesley said — that we should be genuinely interested in our topic and choose something we won’t get bored with. That led me to reflect on how every step of my educational journey has been an intentional move toward my own life and career goals. I’ve always wanted everything I pursue to be a useful step toward success and positive impact in the lives of others, especially youth and young artists. Although my career path has drifted away from the arts, my soul still craves creativity and spaces for artistic expression. I know my project will be centered around the arts and youth because that’s where my passion lies, and I truly believe more can be done in that space.
